Lecture 6

Fundamentals of Reporting.

      Caine’s Arcade goes BIG!
Caine, a nine year old boy, had the surprise of his life when his cardboard arcade was created into an
LA event for all.  Caine built his own arcade out of cardboard in South Los Angeles.

Caine’s’ arcade was pushed into international fame when local Nirvan posted a short video about Caine and his arcade on the 9th April 2012, 5 days later the film launched a movement.

Nirvan had only played at Caine’s Arcade once, before deciding to make the short film and get the public involved.

The above story was a activity done in week six's lecture regarding the Fundamentals of reporting. Through watching a short clip about Caine using the three act method (Start, Beginning and End, Alike a most fiction stories) we were asked to make his story 'news worthy' using the inverted pyramid (who, what, when, where and why followed buy the less important details). By classifying who? Caine and Nine year old boy, what? surprise of his life, when? 9th of April, where? South Los Angeles. By having these questions answered in the first 3 sentences it quickly shows us that the method used to create the new story is the inverted Pyramid.

During the Tutorial this week we were asked to do the opposite and make a story with the Three Part Method…

Stayed Tuned.
